Lunch Club Review November: A Cut Above The Rest?

Submitted on Fri 15 Nov 2024

This month’s Lunch Club was one for the books! After a year that’s felt more like a marathon than a sprint, we hit our target (cue the confetti) and got treated to an epic team lunch at The Cut. Known for its legendary steak, this place had some big expectations to live up to—did it deliver? Here’s what a few of us had to say…

Simon Moss – 4.5/5

“It’s great to see The Cut back open after a four-year nap, and it’s still got that old-school Sydney charm. The food was fantastic—slow-cooked steak just as I remembered, and even the lettuce was surprisingly good (shocking, I know).

Now, a few things stopped it from being a perfect 5/5: first, the steak took ages to reach us, and by the time it did, it was a bit lukewarm. I get it, great things take time, but maybe invest in a hot plate? Second, the wine prices—let’s just say Sydney’s cost of living got nothing on this wine list. But the staff were absolute legends, handling our group’s complicated orders without missing a beat. And if you haven’t tried the 12-hour slow-cooked steak, well, you just haven’t lived.”

Simon, who usually sticks to seafood, broke his pescatarian streak for his beloved steak and wasn’t disappointed. His only gripes? Lukewarm steak and a wine list that could buy you a small island.

Sam McKay – 5/5

“Didn’t catch much of the convo from my end of the table—blame my ears or the ambiance—but let me tell you, the food spoke loud and clear. Absolutely delicious, even better knowing I wasn’t picking up the bill! Worth it? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Only if someone else is buying. 😉”

Sam’s partial hearing didn’t keep him from appreciating the incredible food, and the fact that TRC footed the bill made it taste even sweeter.

Lexy Mitchell – 5/5

“Venue vibe? 5/5, loved the old-school décor. As for the food, I don’t do steak, so it’s a 4/5 from me. The seafood was solid, but the mac and cheese? That was the star of the show!”

Lexy may have skipped the steak, but the mac and cheese had her singing praises. Who needs a ribeye when you’ve got carbs and cheese cooked to perfection?

Geoff Millar – 4.5/5

“The steak was fantastic, and the oysters were spot-on. My only complaint? Trying to keep my food warm while I was not there. Honestly, though, the best part was being with the team—we all worked hard to be here, and every bite tasted better because of it.”

Geoff was equally smitten with the food, though keeping his steak warm whilst he was closing deals was a bit of a challenge. Still, the team spirit more than made up for it.

Monique Rodrigues – 5/5

“This was hands-down the best steak I’ve ever had. The scallops, mac and cheese, wine—everything was delicious. And the staff even moved us to a private dining room since we had such a big group, which made it feel extra special.”

Monique was over the moon, declaring her steak the best she’s ever had and even giving a shoutout to the scallops and mac and cheese. The surprise move to a private dining room added a touch of VIP treatment, making the whole experience feel like a royal feast.

Final Thoughts

The Cut gave us a dining experience to remember— steaks cooked to perfection, fantastic atmosphere, and, yes, even some wallet-burning wine. While a few plates could’ve done with a little more heat and maybe a slightly lower price tag, the day was still a hit. Plus, there’s no better seasoning than great company, right?

Overall Venue Score: 4.7/5
