Lunch Club Review October 2024: Sala Dining

Submitted on Fri 18 Oct 2024

This month, The Recruitment Company’s Lunch Club found itself at Sala Dining, a new spot for our high performers to feast their eyes (and stomachs) upon. With expectations higher than Geoff’s waygu beef order, we walked into this impressive venue, ready to be wowed. So, did Sala Dining deliver the goods, or did it leave us hungry for more? Let’s dive into the reviews.

Anna – 4.48/5

"I was impressed by both the food and the venue. The atmosphere was a highlight, especially when we moved outside at the end of our meal to enjoy the beautiful scenery and great weather.

The food was excellent, and the 2023 Alan McCorkindale Sauvignon Blanc perfectly complemented the meal. My favourite dish of the night was the ceviche-style scallop, and I gave oysters another try. I really enjoyed the Bloody Mary Salsa. For my main, I was feeling adventurous and was recommended the Agnolotti with Yellowfin Tuna, Spring Pea Soffritto, Mint, and Chilli. Tasty, yes. Memorable? Not quite.

As for dessert, I stuck to my lunch club classic—Affogato—served with roasted coffee beans and a hint of chocolate. We all shared a Chocolate Tart and Hazelnut Gelato, which came shaped like a giant hazelnut. Bonus points for the complimentary Pistachio Cheesecake that the staff brought after noticing my curiosity—nice touch.

The service was polite and professional, though we had to ask for the dessert menu. I appreciated not being fussed over, but I can see how some might feel a tad neglected. Overall, a great meal in a lovely setting."

Anna’s palate is not easily impressed, but Sala Dining managed to hit most of the right notes. A well-executed menu with a thoughtful gesture in the form of free cheesecake certainly scored points, though the tuna dish didn’t make waves.

Monique – 4.5/5

"I loved the venue—perfect location with amazing views of the harbour. It was a sunny day, which made everything even more enjoyable. The food was great, especially the entrees. I’m not usually one for oysters, but I really enjoyed them this time.

I ordered the John Dory, which arrived in all its glory…eye and all. Not exactly what I expected, and staring my lunch in the face wasn’t the most pleasant experience. But to be fair, it was cooked to perfection.

The desserts and cocktails were definitely the highlight. Overall, I had a great time."

Monique’s oyster conversion was a surprise hit, though the John Dory’s side-eye was a bit much. Still, perfect cooking and spectacular views left her more than satisfied.

Geoff – 4.5/5

"Great location, great food, great company. The waygu beef was delicious, but I’d have liked a bit more on my plate. They did offer a 1kg option, but that would’ve been too much for me to tackle alone. The ladies were all set with their own mains, so I stuck with the smaller portion. Entrees and desserts were spot-on, though."

Geoff’s love for beef was met with some portion-size disappointment. His solution? A 1kg waygu—because why not? Alas, with no takers to share, he settled for the smaller option. But all was forgiven by the end of the meal with the stellar entrees and desserts.

Final Thoughts

Sala Dining gave us a stunning venue, excellent food, and some memorable moments. The cocktails, desserts, and sunny harbour views were clear winners, and while a few mains could have done with a little extra pizzazz (or a little more meat), the overall experience left our team more than satisfied.

Venue Score: 4.49/5
