Veolia's Victory: A Win with Heart in the 2024 TRC Christmas in July Gingerbread House Competition

Submitted on Tue 30 Jul 2024

In the recent 2024 TRC Christmas in July Gingerbread House Competition, Veolia emerged not just as the winner but as a poignant symbol of hope and resilience. This victory is especially meaningful because of the personal battles faced by one of its key team members, Ashlee Williams. Behind their intricately designed gingerbread house lies a deeply personal story—a story of a family fighting sarcoma together.

Upon winning, Veolia chose to donate their $500 prize to "Sock it to Sarcoma," a charity dedicated to fighting Sarcoma—a rare and aggressive form of cancers that arise in the bones and connective tissue. This decision was driven by a heartfelt connection to the cause: the team's lead designer is supporting her husband, a 34-year-old sarcoma warrior, as they navigate his treatment journey together with their two young children.

About Sock it to Sarcoma

Sock it to Sarcoma is a dedicated nonprofit organisation striving to raise awareness, fund research, and support individuals affected by this challenging disease. Sarcoma cancers are particularly complex due to their diverse and rare nature, making each contribution to research and support critically important.

We would love to encourage our TRC community to engage with and support Sock it to Sarcoma – because every effort to raise awareness, increase funding for research, or support affected families makes a substantial difference!

On behalf of all of us at TRC, our congratulations goes to Veolia for their creativity and dedication to a cause that touches many lives, directly and indirectly.
