Computerworld found that 35 per cent of employers are seeking experienced programmers for application development. This work can include everything from customising software for specific business uses or developing programmes from scratch for a range of different platforms.

LinkedIn analysed the advertisements hosted on its site, finding that people with user interface experience are becoming increasingly valuable. Jobs that demanded these skills moved up to number five on LinkedIn's top ten list, up from tenth place in 2015.

Big data continues to be a source of job opportunities for skilled IT professionals. According to Forbes, data scientists who are familiar with statistical analysis and visualisation are not only desired by employees, their pay has been going up as well.
